St Kilda star Brendon Goddard is a $5 favourite to be the AFL’s first free agency signing, according to online bookmaker tomwaterhouse.com.

Goddard, in his 10th year with St. Kilda, should qualify as an unrestricted free agent when out of contract at the end of the 2012 season, meaning he could move to the club of his choice.

“Goddard is easily the best player of the unrestricted free agent candidates and will be chased by several clubs,” said Tom Waterhouse, Managing Director of tomwaterhouse.com.

“For a player of his ilk, at his age, achieving the ultimate success of playing in a premiership is more important than a larger pay packet.

“Emerging teams like Richmond and Melbourne also have room in their salary caps to accommodate a big signing, although Richmond will need to match offers to retain Brett Deledio, who will attract plenty of interest as a restricted free agent.”
